Students Show Their Support for Anti-Drugs Campaign!

The Event, which was organised between Thames Gateway College's Student Services Department and Havering DAAT (Drug Alcohol Action Team), attracted nearly 300 students.

Quizzes, display boards and a drugs box helped illustrate the dangers of drug abuse alongside members of Havering DAAT holding informal discussions and presentations about various drugs related issues. Students even bagged themselves playing cards with anti-drugs messages printed on them and music CD's produced by young people featuring anti-drugs lyrics.

Jag Bains, a Motor Vehicle student at the college, said: "I appreciate the fact that the college and other agencies care enough to speak to us about the harmful effects of drugs- not only the physical effects but also the effects on relationships. I think it's good to have these awareness weeks because it opens peoples' eyes to what can happen if you become involved in drugs."

Matt Burgess, a Student Services Officer, added: "We have strong links with Havering DAAT and have successfully raised awareness in the last few years amongst our students. The students are always really receptive to the talks and activities we hold to promote our strong anti-drugs message."
