Gateway to Skills project to boost students’ STEM skills in East London
CEME is re-launching its Gateway to Skills Programme with sponsorship from SEGRO. Local secondary school students aged 12-15 are to benefit from access to first class training and equipment to develop their design, technology and engineering skills.
CEME launched its Gateway to Skills Centre way back in 2006, an initiative promoting science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) as well as logistics and property subjects to primary and secondary school children.
Offering unparalleled access to a purpose-built engineering technical skills campus in East London, Gateway to Skills is all about making young people aware of the exciting jobs available in the manufacturing, engineering, logistics and tech sectors. It also gives them hands on experience of some of the latest technology including 3D printing, rapid prototyping, robotics, coding, augmented and virtual reality.
The Gateway to Skills initiative is restarting in April 2022 at CEME in Rainham, East London. The plan is for 1,000 students from Havering, Barking & Dagenham and Newham schools to participate in the programme over the next two years to get a taste of science, technology, engineering and manufacturing (STEM) skills.
We would like to thank SEGRO on behalf of all schools, parents and students in the region for enabling young people to better understand what a career in manufacturing, engineering and technology may look like.
John Sullivan, a Science Teacher from Greatfields School, said of the previous Gateway to Skills project “I thought the sessions were invaluable in engaging our year seven students with science and technology, especially the girls. It opened their eyes to this area of study and the activities were not things that we could easily or affordably replicate in school.”
CEME already has a list of schools wanting to send pupils on the programme so would encourage interested schools and students to register sooner rather than later.
Schools interested in booking a Gateway to Skills taster day can contact CEME on 020 8596 5400 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
On the 1st of April 2022 CEME are holding a launch event for Gateway to Skills. This will also be a local business networking event so if you would like to attend please register here.
